Greene king's CEO Nick Mackenzie recognised in involve’s empower role models list for second consecutive year

Greene King CEO, Nick Mackenzie, has been recognised in Involve’s Empower Role Models list for the second year running. This recognition places Nick among the top 50 Advocates for 2025, celebrating his commitment to fostering a more diverse and inclusive business environment for ethnically diverse employees, both at Greene King and across the hospitality sector.

Involve’s Empower Role Model Lists celebrate and recognise leaders who are paving the way for increasing representation and driving inclusion for ethnically diverse employees within the workplace.
Greene King’s inclusion strategy, "Everyday Inclusion," is focused on creating a workplace where diversity is not only welcomed but championed, and where all team members feel that they belong and can thrive to reach their full potential.

Initiatives from the pub company and brewer include its successful Reverse Mentoring programme, now on its seventh cohort, of which Nick was one of the first mentees along with other members of the Executive Board.   He continues to speak with his mentor, Vee, and has stated that he found his mentoring experience “life changing”.  The business has also embarked on a partnership with the MOBO’s, and posts vacancies on its careers platform, Mobolise, to reach candidates from underrepresented backgrounds, as well as other initiatives in the pipeline.

Greene King’s employee-led inclusion group, Unity, also plays a significant role in championing inclusion for people from ethnically diverse backgrounds, raising awareness and education through events and promoting the importance of allyship.

On receiving the recognition, Nick Mackenzie said:  “It’s a real honour to be named on Involve’s Empower Role Model list.  This recognition reflects the fantastic work happening across our business and within our teams every day to increase representation and drive inclusion.

“However, this a journey and there is still more to do to make both Greene King and the wider hospitality industry welcoming to everyone, from employees through to our customers.  Inclusion is, and will remain, a priority for Greene King and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 12 months will bring.”

Founder & CEO of INvolve, Suki Sandhu OBE, said, “I’m so thrilled to be celebrating this global group of trailblazing Executives, Future Leaders and Advocates for people of colour in business. All the individuals within these lists are championing inclusion and leveraging their expertise and knowledge to drive impactful initiatives and strategic change within their organizations.

“It’s vital that people of colour across global organizations can succeed and achieve career success, and these Role Models are essential drivers of change who are smashing barriers to progress. We could not effect change without them leading the way.”

In addition to his role at Greene King, Nick plays an influential role in advocating Inclusion and Diversity in the hospitality industry. He serves as the chair of the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) and is a supporter of its inclusion charter “Open to All”, of which Greene King are signatories.  He is also on the board for Welcoming All in Hospitality, Travel & Leisure (WiHTL), and earlier this year, he reaffirmed his commitment to inclusion and diversity by signing its CEO pledge.
